The Hogwarts Blanket
One year ago my sister in-law had my nephew. Naturally, one of the first projects I had to make was a Hogwarts blanket for him. My sister in-law is already reading him the books!
The blanket is made using four scarves, each one 300 rows long. You need to count the rows or it won't work in the end! This is knit in a basic garter stitch. I wanted each scarf to be a little different so that when sewn together it wouldn't look exactly the same across. Also, this blanket isn't huge. I made it for my nephew, who is a baby. However, it is big enough to be a good lap blanket for sitting on the couch. A good 3 people can fit underneath it.
Materials*:
Deep red yarn (loops and threads Claret)
Gold yarn (loops and threads Gold)
Blue yarn (loops and threads Royal)
Yellow yarn (loops and threads Butterscotch)
Silver yarn (2 skeins, loops and threads Classic Grey)**
Black yarn
Dark green yarn (loops and threads Deep Forest)
Size 9 knitting needles
Yarn needle
*yarn colors are what I used, but you can use any variations on the colors that you prefer.
**I used silver for Ravenclaw, as in the films, but you can use a bronze yarn in place of a 2nd silver skein if you want to stay true to the book.
Hufflepuff Scarf:
CO 40 stitches in yellow yarn.
Knit 20 rows
Switch to black, Knit 8 rows.
Repeat 10x
Knit one more section of yellow.
You should have 300 rows total.
Bind off.
Ravenclaw Scarf:
CO 40 stitches in blue.
Knit 20 rows.
Switch to silver, knit 10 rows.
Switch to blue, knit 18 rows.
Switch to silver, knit 10 rows.
Repeat last two sections (18 blue, 10 silver) 9x.
Knit 18 more blue rows.
You should have 300 rows.
Bind off.
Gryffindor Scarf:
CO 40 stitches in red yarn.
Knit 30 rows.
Switch to gold, knit 30 more rows.
Repeat 5x.
You should have 300 rows total.
Bind off.
Slytherin Scarf:
CO 40 stitches in green.
Knit 26 rows.
Switch to silver, knit 24 rows.
Repeat 6x
You should have 300 rows.
Bind off.
To finish:
Weave in ends.
Join scarves using the mattress stitch. If you need help with it, just look it up and you should be able to find it pretty easily.
Unfortunately I did not get pictures of the Slytherin and Ravenclaw scarves as I knit them. However, you can see all of them in the finished product!
Looking forward to seeing your finished products!

Bienvenue!
I am the Dweebmachine. I love learning and I love creating.
About 6 months ago I picked up knitting for the first time since high school (and let me tell you then I never actually completed a project). In those 6 months I have made: 6 sweaters, 7 headbands, 7 scarves, 5 pairs of gloves, 5 hats, 2 pairs of slippers, and 1 blanket.
I took copious notes while creating these things, and hope to share the patterns with you on this blog.
I am also a vegetarian who loves taking vintage recipes and adapting them to my diet. Some of those recipes may end up here too.
And who knows, some other things may show up if I put my mind to it.
See you soon fellow dweebs!
